A Constructed Life

Workout Recap One

As I promised last week, I began working out again (after a 15-month hiatus) on Monday. If you don’t have time to read this entire post, here’s a two-word summary: Ouch and goddamnit.

I asked you to help pick between a morning and evening workout, and the majority selected morning, a decision I fully supported. However, when Sunday night rolled around and it came time to set my alarm clock for the next day, I got to 4:45 a.m. and something in me took over—my fingers clicked right passed 4:45 and didn’t stop until 5:30. It was my body’s way of saying, “Bitch, don’t even think about it.” So I didn’t.

I saved my workout for Monday night, changed into my workout clothes as soon as I got home and headed down to our workout space in the basement as soon we put Addy to bed.

My workout of choice? A post-pregnancy DVD I purchased when 6-months pregnant with the intentions of doing it religiously as soon as my doctor gave me the green light. I was given the green light to workout about 54 weeks ago and have only used this video a handful of times.

For those of you who have been reading this blog for a while, you’ll recall this image from the cover of the DVD.

Yup. It’s Tracy Anderson, personal trainer to Madonna and country-music-singer Gwenyth Paltrow, who claims she can transform any woman’s body into something sculpted, petite and tight.

This is my third attempt at committing to Tracy. It’s not her fault, it’s the fault of my busy life and minimal motivation. But this time, I. Am. Motivated!

See? Look at the pure motivation in my eyes.

.
As you can tell, after just one workout with Tracy, I’m already well on my way to looking like her.

And man, did this girl work me out. My abs are so sore it still hurts to laugh or cough…but it’s a nice reminder that the DVD is waking up muscles I haven’t used in over a year.

And while it felt so, so good to be moving and getting strong again, an evening workout that concluded at 8:50 left me wired until midnight. So, I’m going to give evening exercise two more tries this week. If it leaves me wide awake until the wee hours of the morning, I’m going to have to really suck it up and force my body to rise before the crack of dawn to bond with Ms. Anderson. And probably swear at her a little bit, too.

I’ll keep you updated.
