A Constructed Life

She gets it

“Be happy, Mama,” Adeline says to me anytime a shadow of frustration, stress or exhaustion eclipses my usually smiling face. Be happy. Those words echo in my mind on the days that seem too hard, when in reality, it’s not the day that sucks, it’s my attitude. If there’s one thing I’m learning about my girl, and it’s probably true for most kids, she lives for fun…that’s what each moment of the day is built around.

The behaviors that I view as naughty typically arise when she is wholeheartedly sucked into a chasm of extreme energy and rambunctiousness consumes her little being…I half expect her to spontaneously combust at times. She reminds me every day that joy is what life is all about. And in the moments when I lose sight of that, she is there, grinning in my face, her little hand wrapped around mine, reminding me to be happy.

**Thanks to all for your emails, texts and comments regarding my mother-in-law. She’s home and on her way to recovering. Here’s an update.

i’ve been away from the blogging world so i’m not sure what’s up with your mom-in-law, but i will assume i should keep her in prayers. as far as your post….kieran says to me, all the time mind you, “mama..happy?” he is doing a constant check and yet also request for me to stay happy in my mama role…
