A Constructed Life

We interrupt the prolonged blog silence with the following message…

When things go silent on this blog, it’s safe to bet that it’s because something more pressing has come up, which is exactly what happened this week.

My mother-in-law has been in the ICU of a local hospital since Monday because her kidneys decided to stop functioning. It’s been a long, hard week but today, she is doing much better and is likely going to be leaving the ICU this weekend.

Things like this always remind me how quickly “normal” can be kidnapped by the unexpected. It makes me grateful for ordinary days.

I know you’re wishing us the best. Thanks for your encouraging thoughts!

***UPDATE: My mother-in-law was released from the hospital on Sunday and is on her way to being strong and healthy. A perfect storm of events caused her kidneys to shut down, and while she has some permanent kidney damage, it’s not enough to require dialysis or anything more severe. She and my father-in-law came over for dinner, and I’ve never been so happy to see her standing in my kitchen.
