A Constructed Life

Decorating is hard

With just 9 weeksish until Baby Boy arrives, I am approaching panic mode about all there is to accomplish before his arrival. Like decorate his room, Addy’s new room, potty train (attempt) Addy and relish every second of undivided attention that I can give her right now.

Tops on the list? Decorate Adeline’s new bedroom so it looks like a place she’d want to move into. I’m getting hung up on the bedding. Help?

Here’s the Ikea rug that will move with Addy from the nursery to her new big girl room. I want to try to move as many things with her to give the new space some familiarity.
.

Here’s the problem I’m running into. I keep stumbling on bedding that looks like this:

And am worried that combo, or anything much like it, will make the room look too busy. Yet, I don’t want to go with a plain, solid-color bedspread.

Am I right? Is it nutso of me to even consider pairing a colorful, patterned bedspread with a busy rug? And I really feel like the bedding needs to have red in it, because it’s a more prominent color in the rug.

These are the dilemmas preventing me from moving forward with Addy’s room. I’m stuck between a rug and comforter.

    Hi Liz…
Here’s a thought…I know you said you don’t want a plain, solid-colored bedspread, but what if you used a red bedspread to match the rug and then added a bunch of fun, colorful, patterned pillows (and maybe even a blanket on the end of the bed) on top of the bed. That might give you the fun, kids room feel without looking too “busy.” Patterned sheets could be fun too!

Hi Liz – Congrats on your upcoming new addition! We have the same rug for our soon-to-be nursery… bedding is hard. I am matching it with orange for now since we don’t know what we are having. Land of Nod also has a nice yellow that matches the rug pretty well.
