A Constructed Life

And just like that, she’s two

While I would love Adeline’s birthday party photos to contain snippets of handcrafted cuteness and an impeccably well-executed birthday theme, we all know that I am not that mom. At least not when I’m 7-months pregnant and working day and night.

Regardless, I would like to invite you to be a guest at Addy’s birthday party, a dual-theme occasion featuring Dora the Explorer and Thomas the Train, her two current obsessions.

The day began with a presentation of a Dora balloon (boon-a-boon, as Addy calls them) that was larger than the Birthday Girl.
Everywhere that Addy went, so went the balloon.
.
Then she helped Daddy stock the coolers with beverages, most of which I could not drink.
.
During what was supposed to be her pre-party nap, we heard little feet scamper out of bed…and into a basket loaded with stuffed animals. Addy sensed the excitement in the air and didn’t sleep a wink.
.
Then it was party time! The  outfit was selected by the Birthday Girl herself.
.
A quick belly comparison with Joey’s cousin, who always looks fantastic, and is due with her second 1 month before me. Look at how low my belly is hanging!
.
Cake! Dora and Thomas each made an appearance on the Dairy Queen ice cream cake, as requested by Addy.
.
Unlike last year, when Addy only poked at the cake, she actually ate some of it this time. Mostly just the frosting.
.
PRESENTS!!! Adeline made this face over and over, and I could have watched her do it all day long. There’s nothing like the sheer joy and excitement of a child tearing into gifts.
.
She received wonderful, thoughtful things, ranging from jammies, Dora and Thomas goodies, art supplies and even potty training accessories, but this jeep from my sister and brother-in-law stole the show.
.
On occasions like this, when people take time out of their busy lives for us and our daughter, I am always so deeply touched and feel such gratitude for the wonderful families we come from. We had a wonderful day, and I know my girl relished every second of it.
.

Happy Second Birthday, My Little Love Bug!
