The day I spent under the porch

Joey and I (okay, mostly Joey) finished fixing up our porch over the weekend. And while I didn’t do much actual work on it, when I did get called in to lend a hand, I had to crawl into the mud, debris and cobwebs underneath it.

Here’s the view I had while I was trapped in porch garbage hell.

And here’s the view of my captor’s butt, as seen from my prison-like confines.

.

And here’s some of the crap I found while poking around in the dirt and leaves under the porch while I waited for Joey to measure some stuff.

An old grape soda can. I was comforted by the fact that the last person to die hang out under the porch had impeccable taste in beverages.

This ancient newspaper.  From 2008.

And this SKELETON!!! Bleh, yuck, gross, gross, gross! Something not only died under our porch, but then it rotted there, too, while we innocently walked around above it. I could barely find the nerve to snap this photo. But I did it. For you guys.

And then I found an old pair of boots. And as I dug them out of the leaves, based on already having found one skeleton, I half expected to find a femur or tibia poking out of them. But I didn’t. Thank god. These were actually kind of cool to find. It made me wonder who used to wear them, what they did while they wore them and why they thought the best place for them was under the porch.

And then Joey finished his work on the porch and my assistance was no longer needed. So he freed me. And in all my excitement of finally being released after at least 7 to 10 minutes in captivity, I totally forgot to take a picture of the finished product. Oops. Seeing rotting corpses will do that to you.

My porch has corpses under it too! I was belly-crawling under it to add some cinder blocks and fill around the house and came face to face with what I think was a mouse skeleton. Yuck! I DID find a really cool old metal flip top mail box thingy. I’ve never seen anything like it so I guess it was worth it. Why do guys always make us do the dirty work?

Our yard is kinda like your porch everytime it rains something becomes visible under the dirt-the last people who lived here were (Slobs) for lack of a better term-really did I need to find your underwear in my yard?…(bras too if you can believe it)

Tracylynne – I can’t believe you’re finding the previous owner’s bras and underwear in your yard! Those are buried treasures you don’t want to find!

Kelly – That is a great questions! Glad you found something cool to offset the mouse corpse!
