A Constructed Life

Streetscapes and Yard Art

Several days ago, I walked out my door to find someone had left a few of their belongings in front of my home.

Specifically, these “items” were littering the pristine scenery around my perfectly manicured home.

I mean WHO dropped off those “Road Closed” signs right in front of my driveway? And furthermore, who left their corpse of a Christmas tree in my front yard??!!! Certainly Joey and I did not do these things. I mean, it’s not like we hid our holiday evergreen behind our house for so long that we forgot all about it…until now – April! I mean, REALLY! Those dried and browning branches simply do not compliment the ragged, nasty Juniper bushes along our front walk or the peeling paint in the uppermost peak of our house.

And those constructions signs…well, the saddest part is that they’re just the beginning of the mess. When I walked up to the corner by our house, I discovered that someone had left their construction equipment parked on the street, as well as several tons of dirt!

Such sloppy behavior and unnecessary filth will not be tolerated by this woman, who’s home is totally not filled with dirty laundry and unmopped floors.

Okay, I admit it, I am responsible for the remains of the Christmas tree in the front yard, but brush pick up is this week, so that eyesore will soon be gone. In the meantime, I hope our neighbors learn to appreciate the lovely golden-hued, mud color of its disintegrating needles.

Perhaps they’ll all blow off in the wind this afternoon and then it will just be a dainty little Christmas tree skeleton sitting by the curb, reminding passersby of the joy and gaiety of the holiday season.

However, I cannot take credit for the “Road Closed” signs, which seriously, are right in front of our driveway.

They (and I say that having no idea who “they” are), are tearing up a street nearby and these signs are an effort to keep people from driving their vehicles into a construction site, which is all fine and good by me. Except for the noise. Heavy construction tends to create very loud sounds and these guys are at it from dawn till dusk and have been going strong for weeks now. Let’s just say that new road they’re building better be really awesome and have things like water parks and hot dog stands built into it. I can forgive almost anything for a really good hot dog and a water slide.

In the meantime, I will be happy their mess is diverting attention from ours. Keep up the good work, New Road Builders! But for the love of sleeping on the weekends, can’t you rip up several inches of pavement with your bulldozer a tad more quietly?

Ughh. That is even worse than the random guy driving by on a too-loud Harley at 3 in the morning. I feel for you.

Road construction is a huge hassle. We’ve got a major project going on a few blocks away and I swear, on those rare days when I am home in the morning, the noise can be horrible!
