A Constructed Life

World’s Greatest Baby’s Room

I know it’s been a while since I’ve walked you through a big remodeling project, but rest assured – it’s coming. Along with gutting and rebuilding our kitchen, Joey and I need to create a nursery by mid-August, which is when the munchkin in my belly is due to arrive.

Although we’re still planning out and scheduling the details of the kitchen remodel, the baby’s room is already almost finished!

I took these photos of the nursery this morning so you could see the developing theme we’ve chosen to decorate with:

I like to call it “Work in Progress.” This room just radiates warmth and love, especially with the kid-friendly chop saw on the rickety worktable. And every kid wants a horse, so we’re providing our baby girl with not one, but TWO sawhorses. I know – we are awesome parents!

The miscellaneous debris, including lumber, nails and sawdust, will surely provide our child with hours of fun. Little kids tend to gravitate towards simple play things, like pots and pans and rusty spears of metal, so ours should be in baby paradise with this room!

Thanks to the total lack of light fixtures…

…this room will always remain pitch-black, so when I stumble in at 2 a.m., delirious with sleep-deprivation, for a feeding and diaper change, it’s guaranteed to be an accident-free and peaceful experience.

Actually, what my sarcasm is alluding to is the fact that “The Nursery,” is SO not ready! But, I find solace knowing we still have months to get it done and, in comparison to what we’ve done in other rooms, this space should be a piece of cake. All we have to do is paint, hang the trim, hang a light fixture, refinish the hardwood floor, decorate, and PRESTO! – a second floor workshop is transformed into a baby’s room that’s the next best thing to living in a womb. Because, seriously, living in a womb has got to be fantastic – it’s the equivalent of living in a warm and cozy swimming pool where you’re perpetually rocked to sleep and don’t even have to open your mouth to eat.

Anyways, we have some work ahead of us and a very definite deadline…approximately August 17th, give or take a week or two. So, let’s hope this kid thinks wombs are as great as I do and stays put till August, cause there’s no way we’re getting all this done before then.

there’s no doubt in my mind that a)you will be done — and on time and b) it will be absolutely adorable!

    Just don’t overdo, mommy! 🙂

You are lucky that you can use your baby room…we have dogs that bark all the time next to ours. We will have to move when we have a baby so, we can have a baby room. 🙁 For right now it’s going to be a closet, and that is so sad cuz it’s so cute!! Poor Stef will have to share a room with Owen.
