A Constructed Life

Who Needs Heat?

Those are our radiators. We have one in every room of the house. They’re pretty nice, especially when they’re hooked up. Sure wish they were cause last weekend the temperature inside our house was stuck at about 58 degrees for two days. I made a late-night run to Kmart for a space heater and have spent every night since huddle around it like it’s a bonfire. I’m sad to report they have not yet created a space heater that also roasts marshmallows. Needless to say, I’m a total wuss when it comes to being cold, despite the 26 years I’ve spent in a state where winter temps. regularly drop below zero.

But, back to the radiators…we’ve been prepping the trim for 4 of the rooms in the house, ranging from stripping the wood of old shellac to reveal its original beauty to adding a fresh layer of paint to those that already have 10 layers on them.
Once the trim is up and the radiators are painted (we’re using an antiquey bronze-colored paint), we’ll move them back in place – slowly, inch by inch, cause those suckers weigh a ton. But I love them. They’re perfect for drying clothes on after a day of shoveling.
Oh winter…damn it.

On the bright side, literally, I just heard it’s supposed to be freakishly warm in Wisconsin this weekend – up to 75 degrees on Sunday. My mind is swirling with all the things I should do on the last warm day of the season. I could go for a hike, a bike ride, visit an orchard, work in the garden, sit on the porch or run around the yard naked because it’s hot enough to do so. Decisions, decision, decisions…

Heat is for ninnies. And don’t fool yourself about spending a nice day outside – you’ll probably just spend another day in your dust filled house. 🙂
