A Constructed Life

And then we partied like one-year-olds

We celebrated Crosby’s first birthday last Saturday. It was, of course, a Halloween-themed event, as the day of his birth will likely dictate for life, or until he gets sick of it and demands something like Spider Man or Cars. While everything went well, there is one tragedy. I went all out with cute stuff, like clever little foods with Halloween names and spooky-looking labels, and I did not take a single picture of it. I was so damn proud of myself for the effort I put into the theme and that I actually kind of pulled it off and now it shall only live on in memory.

For example, I made things called Mummy Dogs.

Those are not the ones I made, but I made things just like it! I wrapped 28 hot dogs in a thousand strips of crescent dough and no one captured this Look-How-Committed-I-Am-To-My-Son-and-His-Birthday-Party-Theme moment!

And there’s was Pumpkin Poop. It’s just orange cheese puffs in a bowl with a label. But kinda clever, right?

Then the veggie tray…well, it was just a veggie tray but I put the dip in a cute little pumpkin. And then there was a chili bar with 2 different types of chili and all the fixings. I bought a bunch of those plastic vampire teeth and those glasses with the nose and had them in a bucket with a sign that read Insta-costume.

See?

I guess the point is, I don’t typically find the time or energy to really pull off a theme when I’m entertaining. But I felt like I did it this time. And the fact that there is no documentation of it…I guess I spent so much time on the theme I forgot about the photography. Anyways, here are some things I did manage to capture. If you want to see the inspiration for the party, check out my pinterest page.

I did not make that cake. But I did do a hell of a job ordering it.

This is a shot of the Donut Tree. Rather than bob for apples, I hung powdered donuts from a tree and the kids had to eat them off the string without using their hands. See? I even had an organized activity!

The powdered donuts make it especially fun.

All the kiddos. I told them to make silly faces. I think it’s hilarious that when you say that to kids, they all stick their tongues out, like that’s the definition of “Silly Face.”

My little family.

Blowing out the candle was a group effort.

Cake time!

It was a success, even without the photos. Now, on to at least several nostalgic posts where I get all sentimental about my son turning one and briefly relive the pregnancy and delivery experience.
