A Constructed Life

And then I realized I had married Superman

Joey goes back to work on Monday. He’s been home since Oct. 27th, and our time together has been wonderful. As is typical with things like this, it flew by way too quickly, and I will miss him terribly during the day when it’s just me and the kids. Not just because he was my teammate in childcare, making it possible to watch the kids man-to-man defense style, but because we’ve been able to reconnect as partners and as a family.

The year leading up to Crosby’s birth was the busiest of our lives, with each of our jobs typically demanding about 60 hours a week. We both counted down to the month of November, when we could put work on hold and focus on each other and our children. And that’s exactly what we did – hunkered down in our home or adventured out as a three or foursome.

He was not just my rock during these last 4 weeks, but my foundation and support beams as well. He prepared almost every meal I ate, helped change diapers, cleaned up toys and soothed tears (many of which were mine). I had a few emotionally challenging days during the last month, and I can only imagine how many more there would’ve been had I not had him to lean on.

Though Joey enjoys what he does, I know his heart is breaking at the idea of going back to work and having to refocus his attention from his family to his job. And my heart is breaking because I will miss spending my days with my best friend and the cozy comfort of being tucked in so tightly with my family.

This post is a huge thank you to my amazing husband. Thank you for all your help, for taking such good care of me and our kids, for putting up with my mood swings and for working as hard as you do. Words don’t exist that could capture the love and appreciation we all have for you.

Awww! That’s so nice. With all three of my girls, Jayson only got to take a few days off, but during the summer we get that family time and I totally get what you mean about just hunkering down as a family and enjoying that time together. So nice.
