A Constructed Life

And then I blinked and 1 month had passed

Crosby turned 1 month old on Monday. We celebrated with a photo shoot, and moving The Boy out of our room and into his nursery (pictures coming). First, the photo shoot. I tried to squeeze it in after a bath and before feeding him, knowing that once he was tanked up, he’d pass out seconds later. I got the first two shots in before he totally melted down. You’ll notice the rapid onset of food coma in the other ones.

OMG, I’m so hungry!!!
.
Hungry! Hungry! Hungry!
.
Ah! So much better.
.
And now sooo sleepy
.
Little known fact about my son: He dozes off with his eyes open. He’s sound asleep in this photo. I know. It’s strange.
.
And then I sneezed and woke him up. Oops.
.
This is what I’d look like if I didn’t have a neck.
.
This is vaguely what I imagine Crosby will look like when he’s a 40-year-old man. Something about this photo makes me feel like an older man’s head was photoshopped onto my baby’s body.
.
And he’s totally out. End of photo shoot.

**********

In preparation for Joey returning to work, we moved Crosby out on Sunday. He bunked with us at home since day one. I still recall Joey scrambling to get the room ready for him when we got home from the hospital. It’s funny – Addy only lasted in our room for 2 days before we moved her into the nursery. Not sure if it was because she was a louder sleeper or my ears are less sensitive to baby noises the second time around, but having Crosby in our room was easy. I was sad to move him out, simply because it was one more step away from his newbornness.

.

Crosby slept at the foot of our bed in pack-n-play. I took this photo the day after we moved him out. Look closely and you’ll notice baby monitors on both night stands – Joey is on Addy duty and I stay on alert for the Cros-Meister. It’s overkill, we know, but I can’t imagine not having them on. A side note – we’re planning on flanking the wedding pic above our headboard (made from one of the 6 original doors from 1913 that we were left with after remodeling) with pictures of Addy and Crosby.
.
My friend, Rebecca, let us borrow the swing she used with her daughter. Crosby basically lived in it for the first 2 weeks of his life. Now it’s a lifesaver when I’m trying to get ready in the morning.
.
Joey set up a changing table on his dresser in our room. See that painting (Ikea) above it? It’s been peed on several times thanks to our baby boy.
.

A close up of the photos sitting next to the changing pad. So fitting. Ultrasounds pictures of Crosby (left) and Addy (right), a photo from our first Thanksgiving as parents, and, laying on the dresser, a picture that was taken of us at 3-day long party Joey and his roommates hosted in college.

And that’s that. One month down. If there’s one thing my first child has seared into my brain, it’s the knowledge that this time – these minutes of my child being a tiny baby – are fleeting. Before I know it, my baby boy will follow in his sister’s footsteps and turn into a person that walks, talks and grows more rapidly than my mind can process.
