A Constructed Life

Painfully slow progress

That nesting thing? It’s kicked in big time. All I want to do with my time is plan Adeline’s new bedroom and our son’s nursery and clean and organize every inch of our home and complete every project we’ve ever discussed doing. And I want to finish it all by next week. A tad unrealistic, yes?

Sadly, free time is a precious commodity in our home these days, so, instead of being a hyper productive pregnant woman, I’m becoming an increasingly frustrated and annoyed one instead. Also, the heat index is over 100 degrees and we do not have air conditioning. That’s so awesome when you’re pregnant!

Despite the heat, I finally took our first steps towards “transforming” our guest room into a 2-year-old’s dream bedroom. See?

See how the beige walls and oriental rug scream Toddler’s Room?

Clearly, we have a ways to go. A long, long ways. But I did strip the bedding, a required step before moving the bed out, and I moved the printer that used to be on the dresser to a spot near our…gasp! computer! Imagine that? A printer sitting next to a computer, rather than an entire flight of stairs away. We are so practical!

After that, I melted, so all progress stopped. Heat does not help me accomplish things.

Here’s the kicker though. Last time when I was pregnant, I only had to get one room ready. And that took me forever to do cause I’ve just never been one of those people who can devote loads of time to accessorizing a room, not even when it’s my first child. Now? I have two rooms to get ready. So basically my kids are destined to live in partially decorated spaces with half executed themes.

We’re heading out on our last vacation of the summer (a 4-day trip to a lake house in Michigan with some friends and their kiddos). I’ve announced to Joey that when we return, Operation Get Our Shit in Order begins, meaning rooms will be decorated, little girls will be potty trained and moved to big girl beds, baby gear will be sifted through and a son will be named. I know – that’s a lot of stuff to get done in 3 months. But never underestimate the manic nature of a knocked up chick with a rapidly approaching due date.
