A Constructed Life

Hooray for science

And hooray for the teachers who teach it, because my mom, a former elementary school teacher, saved my butt today with an experiment she used to do with her class.

Adeline was incredibly grumpy today and refused to take a nap, on a day when I, of course, had a zillion things I wanted to accomplish. So, to distract her from being a complete crab, I mixed a little cornstarch with water. Have you ever done that? When you squeeze the mixture in your hand it turns solid, as soon as you open your hand it turns back to liquid.

Anyways, Adeline was IN LOVE with the stuff and it kept her occupied for about an hour.

However, it’s rather messy, especially when your toddler purposefully starts rubbing it all over herself and the walls. Happily, it rinses off with a bit of water.

After a quick bath and an episode of Sesame Street, Adeline was cheerier and I had baked two pies and a loaf of banana bread for us to enjoy at the cabin this week.

This pie you guys…it’s a recipe that will be in the October issue of Taste of Home…it is a to-die-for good Chocolate Pecan Pie that I promise I will share with you as soon as the issue hits newsstands in a few months.

In the meantime, I will be taking a desperately needed vacation to northern Wisconsin with my family and this blog is going to sit idle for a few days. Hope you all have a wonderful Fourth of July!
