A Constructed Life

And the bond begins

Ask any mother, and she’ll tell you how amazing it is to feel a little life inside her moving around. Bumps, kicks and flutters from unknown limbs from an unknown being that you will, inevitably, fall madly in love with and protect ferociously. It’s my favorite part of being pregnant. Well, that, and the bigger boobs.

I started feeling Number Two move about a week ago, and instantly felt an attachment start to form. While it does, in a way, begin as soon as you learn you’re pregnant, I think the mother-child bond really revs up when you physical realize you’re sharing your body with your baby, that there truly is a life inside of you, and it’s one that depends on you completely.

We won’t find out for sure until June 20th, but Joey and I are both feeling like my already-gigantic belly is home to a boy. And if we’re wrong, then I’ll be more than happy to reuse the hundreds of tiny dresses and frilly socks we have from when Adeline was first born. And if we’re right, I’m going to mentally start preparing to having dirt and chaos and ESPN in my house at all times.

Here’s what Babycenter.com says our baby looks like right now, at 19 weeks.

Thank God! Someone who is finally taking advantage of modern technology. (Know several pregnant gals right now who are taking the “wait and see” approach.)

That has to be a wonderful and awe-inspiring feeling indeed. You are so lucky! 😉
