A Constructed Life

At the right angle and with the right lighting, my baby almost looks chubby

My little Bug-a-Boo with her great-grandmother, Bernice

.

Adeline had her 18-month check-up today. At her last appointment (15 months), she shocked us by not gaining a single pound in 3 months, which earned her a spot in the 5th percentile for weight and caused me great concern when Addy went days with just picking at her food.

So today, we held our breath as we set her on the scale, hoping she had gained at least 1 pound.

She exceeded our expectations! 3 pounds! She gained 3 pounds and now weighs 21 lbs, which puts her into the 10th percentile. She’s still a little pipsqueak, but it’s progress. We’ll continue our regiment of letting her eat basically whatever and whenever she wants and loading her up with Pediasure at night. (Which is ironic, because when she was first eating, I was the mom who refused to feed her child candy, sugar or anything unhealthy. Now, if she wants chocolate or pizza, I happily hand it over).

This was also the first time Adeline seemed to remember the doctor’s office, or at least that it’s the place where she gets shots. As soon as she caught sight of the exam table, she burst into tears and clung to us for dear life. It is beyond heartbreaking to see you child scared and in pain and to have to just watch her suffer through it.

Despite all that, she did fantastic and the trip was a huge success!

Hooray for my somewhat slightly chubby baby!

Wouldn’t it be awful if everytime we went to the doctor they would tell us what weight percentile we fall into for our age. I guess “body mass index” is a little gentler on the ears.
