A Constructed Life

When it’s Good to be Blinded

There is a man in my house right now doing unbelievable things…things that have my toes curled with excitement.

He is hanging blinds.
After months and months of no privacy, glaring sunlight and makeshift blinds falling to the ground, my naked windows are now adorned with faux-wooden slats, a cord that opens and closes those slats and another cord that slants them up and down.  These slats and their components combine to create perfect and wonderful blinds that I shall love forever!

Here are a few “before” shots of our au naturel windows in the front closet and guest bedroom.

And here’s our completely ridiculous “blinds” in the master bedroom, which I have rehung (or rather, retapped) numerous times.

Lovely, isn’t it?

On a side note, when I took down these blinds for Paul, the blind installer who happens to live just a few blocks away, I noticed Katie’s contractors hard at work finishing the details of the garage.

And then….then!!!  The miraculous happened.  Within moments, blinds appeared on the windows.  Although Paul hinted that we could probably hang them ourselves (“Um…you can frame in walls, tile and drywall…you can probably hang these blinds”), I’m glad we didn’t.  Paul had to borrow our miter saw a few times cause the vallences were too long and I swear I heard some disgruntled muttering coming from master bedroom while he worked.
Regardless, the job got done and it got done right!

Hooray!!!

Here’s a close up:

Who knew that blinds could make me so happy? I want to invite the whole neighborhood over to see them, telling them they’ll no longer see me wandering our house in donut pajamas or frantically dashing to The Chronometer before it takes its lasts tick, because I have privacy.

Now, please excuse me.  I have to take advantage of this new-found freedom and do all the risque things that people with privacy do.  Like make a sandwich and read a magazine or maybe even take a nap!  Wow – things are about to crazy!

I love them!! You are so lucky!! And Lucky that you got them because, I don’t have and blinds in the kitchen anymore so you might see things that you don’t want to see at night. :)Thanks for the update on the garage, I know that they are working on it when i’m at work now. 🙂

You really could have hung them yourself, I swear! I’m not the least bit constructionally inclined, but I measured my windows and bought wood blinds from Lowe’s. They cut the blinds there, so no need to do any trimming at home! Though now I have to figure out how to remove the extra bottom slats …

Otherwise, it was easy as pie! And I never would have bought the real wood blinds if it hadn’t been for a $500 gift card from my mortgage broker. Yay, first-time home buyer!
