A Constructed Life

Where’s Liz?

Joey and I decided to trade the indoor projects for an outdoor activity before it becomes unbearable to be outside in Wisconsin. Of course, an outside activity for us doesn’t involve hiking, a trip to the farmer’s market or a drive through the country. It means building railings for the steps on our front porch.

Joey built the steps a few years ago when he painted the house. As we tackled this project, we quickly learned that it’s much easier to build railings when they are built at the same time as the steps, not three years after the fact. To make the railings happen, we had to pull off a few of the steps to attach the posts, and since I’m a tad more petite than my husband, I got to crawl behind the steps to do some work. What fun!

The porch railings aren’t quite finished yet. As is usual for us, each project takes a little longer than we anticipate. We’re really struggling with measuring the handrail that connects the posts – we keep coming up short. Any one have any suggestions?
