A Constructed Life

Insulation!

Insulation is a glorious thing, primarily because we’re finished installing it. It took a couple days and a whole lot of itching and coughing to get it done, but we did it! The house instantly felt more snug and so much warmer.

Insulating the house really wasn’t too bad, just time consuming. The Family Handyman Magazine web site had some helpful articles and images that made the project easier to complete. As you can see in the pictures above, we insulated the exterior walls, the ceiling below the attic and the walls of a few rooms that needed a sound barrier (bathrooms and bedrooms).

By the way, the first picture is the master suite, the second is an image of the doorway we filled in between the sitting room (now the half bath and mud room) and dining room, and the last picture is of the new half bath and mud room on the first floor.

Things We Learned: 1) Buy insulation with the highest R-value that will fit in your walls. 2) Cover as much of yourself as possible, including hair, eyes, skin and mouth. 3) It goes much faster when working with a partner. 4) Use a straight edge when cutting the insulation. 5) Wash every single thing you wore when working with the insulation to prevent extreme itching from occurring.
