A Constructed Life

“We’ll Work on the House”

It’s Saturday night. A few years ago, a Saturday night would’ve involved me spending almost 2 hours doing my hair and makeup, putting on my cutest new outfit and heading out on the town with my friends. In the life I am living right now, it means that I ditch the halter top for my grubbiest clothes, throw my hair in a pony tail, surround myself with tools and spend quality time installing insulation. At least, that’s what was supposed to happen tonight.

My husband invited his friend Chris over and the three of us were going to put in some subfloor in our attic and then hang insulation. Chris has invested quite a few hours/days/weeks into our remodeling project and we’re grateful for his help. So, Chris arrives and we chatted for a bit. A few beers were enjoyed. A video game suddenly appeared. The boys are powerless to such a combination. Needless to say, I am all dressed up for work and have no partners to help me. At this very moment, my husband and Chris are playing some baseball video game, giggling like little boys, drinking beer and sporadically singing along with the Tesla, Guns N’ Roses and Slaughter CDs that are playing. I am sitting about 6 feet away from them with the fine fellows you see above keeping me company. This has become the new reality of what Saturday night is for me. And you know what? I’m okay with it. Just wish I wouldn’t have wasted my favorite crappy sweatshirt on a non-occasion like this.

Crap. There were two comments but I accidently deleted one of them when I tried to go in and edit my response to it. It was a funny too. Sorry!
