A Constructed Life

And for a moment, it seemed everything would be perfect

She likes him! She really likes him! At least she did for the split second that it took to snap this photo. Most of the time, Adeline could care less about Baby Brother, as she refers to him. She’ll occasionally acknowledge him by briefly smothering hugging him, patting his head or trying to stick a pacifier in his mouth when he cries (while commanding him to stop crying) . It’s really very sweet to watch her with him.

Overall, things here are going really well. I know the universe is going to drop me to my knees just for typing those words, so please make like Eddie Floyd and Knock, knock, knock on wood, Baby (whose version of the song, in my opinion, is way better than Amii Stewart’s).

I feel like we’ve all leapt the hurdles of adjusting to a new life, at least for now. I know there are zillions more ahead of us, like when Crosby becomes mobile and starts messing with Addy’s toys and others I can’t even predict. For now, I am so thoroughly enjoying this time with my children and watching each of them change day by day. Being home with two kids is a challenge, and there are moments when I’m convinced Addy and Crosby are already commiserating, as if Get Mommy Committed to a Mental Institution is an awesome new game. But for 98 percent of the time, this is a happy house.

If Addy and Crosby need a few pointers on their “Mommy game”, they could refer to Kieran and Hazel…Kieran has just about perfected the “I WILL drive Mama to the point of insanity and then do something really sweet and cute to make up for it.” Oh, to be two…..
