A Constructed Life

A favorite purchase

Attention! This is a baby-free post! I’m actually going to talk about something besides kids! This is a subject I rarely hit on, simply because I don’t have much to say about it. Fashion. More specifically, jewelery, something I have even less to say about because I hardly ever buy it. Fact: Every cute piece of jewelery I own, except the one I’m about to show you, has been gifted to me. Another fact? I don’t buy earrings because I’m convinced I look like a pirate when I wear them.

About a year ago, I saw this bracelet in a resale shop during a trip to Atlanta with friends. While it immediately caught my eye, I did what I always do when it comes to buying clothing, jewelery or shoes – I started talking myself out of the purchase. When it comes to these items, I tend to only buy when I feel a true need to, which usually happens right before a vacation, when I realize everything I own is boring or I’ve been wearing it for years, because, in all honesty, I probably have been. This has saved me cash, but it’s also created a rather lackluster wardrobe, one with little personality and anything unique.

Here’s The Bracelet – the one item I own that best sums up my “style” because it actually has some.

I love its colors, uniqueness and vintagey look. The day I bought it, I made the decision that from that point on, if I ever saw something I really loved and could afford to buy it, I would. Except I haven’t.

I still rarely ever buy new clothing or accessories, but now it’s more because I don’t take the time to find things I love. But every time I wear this bracelet, it serves as a reminder that great finds should not be passed up, that it’s okay to seize the moment if there’s cash in your wallet and that getting dressed every morning would be much more enjoyable if I took the time to fill my closet with more personalized items rather than whatever is on sale at Kohls, Target or Old Navy.

Because I desperately miss wearing high heels and feeling like I look attractive (a ginormous belly and swelling appendages will do that), I’ve been coveting most of the things I see on these websites.

Modcloth

Ruche

I am a HUGE fan of online shopping mostly because I live far away from everything and I find it increasingly difficult to find time to physically go to store that sells things besides food and diapers. Have any great sites to recommend?
