A Constructed Life

I Think This Is What They Call “Decorating”

I’ve mentioned more than once that I don’t know how to decorate, simply because I’ve never really had to do it before. I spent years living in apartments, where I knew my stay would be brief, so I didn’t bother spending time and money sprucing it up since I was just going to leave. Then when we bought a house, I knew I’d be ripping it apart, so, again, why bother when it’s all just going to be destroyed?

Now that many rooms of the house have been reassembled, we are finally finding the motivation to decorate and turn our house into a space that reflects our personalities.

Nothing has motivated me more than the white walls of our baby’s nursery. For the first time, I care about creating atmosphere and having things that match. I am determined to make her space a nice one and it will be the only room in the house that has been given such attention.

At first, we started going down The Pastel Path, eyeing up pink, sage and butter-yellow bedding, fans and rugs. Then, two weeks ago, one of my co-workers gave me this print, called “Her Laughter,” by Brian Andreas:

I feel in love with the print’s saying and vibrant colors. I realized I want my daughter’s space to be soothing, but emanate fun and spunk. I want it to be adorable, but quirky, because quirky is among my most favorite things.

Shortly after this epiphany, Joey found these prints by TRMACKSTUDIO on etsy.com and we immediately fell in love with them.

So now the pastel bedding has been switched to bolder hues, and I feel as if this room has a chance to be perfect.

The funniest part is that one floor below the nursery lies an entire kitchen (three times the size of the nursery) that I have to select paint, tiles, lighting, art and knick knacks for. And although I adore cooking and have been awaiting this kitchen for five years, I can’t stopping thinking about the room my baby girl will soon be sleeping in.

Oh wow, I think you have just found me a new favorite artist! I have four Brian Andreas prints already (including the same one you have – I have two daughters). I'm going to have to get me at least one from TR Mack's Etsy shop. Thanks!
