A Constructed Life

We’re Putting On An Addition! The Full Report

We’ve taken on some pretty big projects during our whole-house remodel, but none as big as this. This project scares the living daylights out of me and is also one of the most exciting transformations we’ll experience.

Since this is such a massive undertaking, we’ve enlisted the help of an expert to help us mock up an example of what this project is going to look like. Here’s a preview of what’s to come…

That’s right, folks. In order to really maximize the square footage that’s available to us, Joey and I have decided to convert my womb into livable space. In other words, I’m three months pregnant. I still can’t quite believe that by the end of the summer, there will be a tiny child in my home that I’m responsible for.

Seeing that we’re taking on the task of gutting and rebuilding our kitchen, I do think we’re mildly insane for trying to accomplish this during a time when my abilities to help with the project are incredibly limited. But, after almost 5 years of marriage, a decade of dating and 18 years of knowing each other, we really felt ready to become parents. We’re equal parts thrilled and terrified, but are already in love with our 2″ baby. Too bad it doesn’t stay that small for when you finally have to get it out.

I have so much more to say about this and to tell you. I have been DYING to share the news – to explain why I was flipping out when I turned 30 (it was because not only was I turning 30, I was also knocked up) and why my posts may have been less than enthralling lately (I can’t tell you how exhausted I’ve been).

So, there you have it. Some of the biggest news I will ever have to share with you guys.

P.S. My pants are being held up by a rubber band right now because I can no longer button them. I think this is the only time in my life when I’ll feel happy that my clothes don’t fit.

Congratulations! Enjoy the little moments. Wait until he/she starts kicking and you can feel it on the outside of the tummy (since I’m the dad, that’s obviously as much as I could feel). Once again, congrats!

Oh. My. God. THAT IS AWESOME! Congratulations!

You realize that by next summer (2010) you’ll have an EXTRA PAIR OF HANDS to pitch in on the DIY front. Way to go. 🙂

Oh my gosh, Liz! Congratulations!!! What a perfect 30th birthday present. Here I thought you were going to be adding onto the kitchen so you could have more cabinet space. HA!

Thanks so much everyone. It was great to share the news with you and I’m sure you’ll hear more about it from time to time. We’ll have our little baby wielding a hammer in no time! Kelly – thank you for sending that link – I love it! I’m writing a post about it for tomorrow.

    Congratulations, Liz!
I know what you mean when you say that it seems insane when you’re in the middle of renovating your kitchen (etc.). We want to have a kid, but keep wondering whether it is too insane considering that our house is a shell. However, if we wait until the house is finished, we’ll never ever have a kid– so forge forward with the insanity!
