A Constructed Life

My Kind of Bling

Home remodelers tend to be a dirty bunch. We don’t mind the dust, the grime, the bits of blood and overall filth that come with rebuilding a home yourself. In fact, most of us like it. For some of us, our grubby sweatshirt, splattered with paint, varnish, caulk and ten other substances, is the closest thing we have to a security blanket (well, except for me. I still have an actual security blanket. I swear I stopped sleeping with it years ago). However, just because we feel at ease in the presence of sweat and dirt doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate the finer things in life. Like quality craftsmanship, the gleam of 24-karat gold and the shimmer of a sparkly diamond.

Yesterday, my home remodeling buddy and blog reader, Kelly, who has completed some amazing remodeling projects of her own (you should see her photos on Flickr), posted a link to this image yesterday in the comments section.

How perfect is that? Not only does it capture the theme of “Do It Yourself,” it also conveys the idea that you no longer have to because you have found the nut to your bolt, the hammer to your nail and the bit to your drill. Put two “Bring-on-the-shit-storm-of-home-improvement-projects” type personalities together, and some pretty amazing things are bound to happen. So, with Valentine’s Day around the corner (I have to admit, even though I’m married, I really don’t dig this holiday), here’s to hoping we all find a special person to help us. Someone who will brush the drywalling dust from our eyes, catch us when we slip through the floor joists and pull the nail from our boot when we step carelessly. Whether it be man, woman, family or friend, there’s no denying that the hard work of home remodeling is best completed with a partner.

Maybe it’s because my body is teeming with hormones that I’m getting all sappy, but this post is dedicated to my most favorite person in the entire world – my husband, best friend and soon-to-be baby daddy – Joey. I am so grateful to have you by my side every day. And even though you’re a mouth breather, I still love sleeping next to you every night. Except when you snore. Then it kinda sucks. Regardless, I love the path we’ve taken, that we put in the effort to create a great marriage and that we get to experience the joy, frustration and sheer terror of parenting together. Thank you and I love you.

P.S. Thanks for that great link, Kelly!
P.P.S Thank you to whoever said a prayer for my sinus cavities. I can now breathe my left nostril, and I am grateful for that.

Happy Valentine’s Day, you two crazy kids! those rings are awesome. I’m still holding out for Carter Ossterhouse. 🙂

Glad you’re breathing better again! Highly underrated, isn’t it?
