A Constructed Life

A crappy hallway becomes crappier

Another before and after. Doing the demo in our hallway took an entire day. The actual demo is easy – just hit the plaster with a hammer and it comes crumbling down. Then yank off the lath and presto – the demo is finished. But then you’re left with the cleanup, which is miserable. See the snow shovel at the end of the hallway? That’s our tool for scooping up hundreds of pounds of dust-producing plaster. The air becomes thick with the dust, which is so fine that it makes its way through a face mask, leaving a chalky-taste in your mouth and your nose feeling really…full.

20 plaster-filled bags of garbage later, each one weighing about 60 pounds, the hallway demo is finished. We did uncover our brick chimney though, which we’re thinking about leaving exposed. Anyone know a good tuck pointer?
