A Constructed Life

Stump #10

That means we picked out our Christmas tree, adding a fresh 2012 stump to our growing pile (we now have 10. Crazy to think Joey and I have lived together that long).

I strive to make our annual Christmas Tree Hunt a special occasion, so I look for tree farms that offer a cut-your-own option and activities for the kids. This place offered hay rides, bonfires, hot chocolate and a shop full of baked goods and candy. Addy opted to skip the hay ride for more time by the fire snuggling with her candy dots, a most classic treat that I also enjoyed as a kid. I vividly remember carefully freeing each dot from its paper backing before gobbling them up.

We always try to sum up the year’s events on each of our Christmas tree stumps. Usually they highlight the celebrations of the year, like getting married, buying a house or the birth of our children. This year is different. Christmas comes with tears and pain, but we’re all trying our bests to live in a space of happiness and excitement. The kids are experts at bringing out those emotions, and I feel ever more blessed to be their mother. But all of this is a topic for another post. In the meantime, hope your preparations for the holidays are well underway!
