Holiday Home Tour Sneak Peek

I recently mentioned that 300 people will be touring my home as part of a local historic home tour. In preparation, I have been consumed by holiday decorating. It is all I think about, all I do with the gobs of spare time I have and I buy sparkly holiday knick knacks wherever I go. I have never decked the halls so friggin hard.

I have much work ahead of me and just over a week to do it all. The tour lands Saturday, Dec 8th. I thought I would share a few of my favorite spots in the house so far.

One of the main reasons we agreed to be on the home tour is because we knew it would force us to tackle some neglected areas in our home, specifically our foyer. It was bare, blank, naked, empty. Not anymore.

We have a family photo wall! Hooray! Many of the frames still contain images of strangers, so next I have to put pictures of actual family members in them.

This little branchy arrangement is at the foot of the stairs in the foyer. I owe its creation to the years I spent in the floral industry (high school and college).

It’s surrounded by the bases of all the Christmas trees Joey and I have had since we’ve lived together. We always write a few words about what’s happened that year, and it’s so fun to read through them and remember how special each holiday has been.

This is also in the foyer. I was very proud of myself for thinking of this little idea. Snowflake ornaments (covered in glitter, of course) hanging from fishing wire. Or twine. Fishing string? I don’t know. But it works well to hang things.

I’ve got the kitchen almost finished and a good start on the dining room, but the living room has a ways to go. But, I’ll get there! I have a clear theme for each room. Now that’s a phrase I never ever thought I’d type. I have never been one to have a theme anywhere, let alone specific ones for various rooms in my house. This is all very unlike me. Or maybe it’s the unleashing of a new me. A very glittery, sparkly, frilly-bow-making new me. But really, the glitter in the house is unreal. It’s falling from ornaments and garland like festive dandruff, and at the end of each day we’re all covered in it. Addy loves it (Look at me, Mommy, I sparkle like a fairy!) and Crosby just tries to lick it off himself.

So, thoughts? Do you like? I’ll unveil the entire house when I have it finished. Wish me luck!

Ooh! I was hoping you’d incorporate your Christmas tree trunks into your decorations. That’s such a cool tradition.
Finally all those issues of Martha Stewart Living are paying off for you!
