A Constructed Life

And then I found words to inspire me for life

I found this card at a cute little gift shop in Atlanta over a year ago. Its words, penned by Orison Swett Marden, wrapped themselves around my heart – the trueness of them making my breath catch in my throat.

I know it sounds Oprahesque, but I’ve always believed that we each have a purpose, that it’s up to each individual to discover and find It, and that we’ll feel much happier and fulfilled when we stumble upon It (if we have the clarity to even know we’re There). Though I am only in my thirties, I feel I’ve spent a large part of my life wondering what to do with it. Perhaps it’s my anxiousness to get There that distracts me from arriving. I’m hoping 2012 gets me closer to figuring It out, especially before the world implodes/is engulfed in flames/buried in water/overtaken by disease, which means I only have about 11 months to find my destiny. No pressure. What about you? Have you found your It or the words that inspire you to keep searching?

.

Here’s a few other words by Marden that resonate with me:

“We make the world we live in and shape our own environment.”

“The golden opportunity you are seeking is in yourself. It is not in your environment; it is not in luck or chance, or the help of others; it is in yourself alone.”
