A Constructed Life

No one died or went crazy!

Just a short post to let you all know that after a week of being left alone to care for them, both of my children are still alive and I did not have a nervous breakdown! Success!

To be honest, I had it easy this week as Addy’s grandparents watched her twice and she had school two mornings this week, too. So, until Thursday afternoon, I pretty much only had one kid at a time. BUT! Next week? It’s just me and them and some really cold winter weather.

My two major achievements of the week:

1) I had to get one or both of the kids to various events each morning this week, and I got all three of us out the door on time each and every time. Note: It takes a shit load of effort and preparation to get two kids and one mom dressed, fed and out the door.

2) I went to a public place by myself with a toddler and a baby! The first stop? Target, of course, a place of utmost safety for any kind of new mom. I had to consult my friend Sheryl, also a mother of two that are two years apart, before venturing out. I was stumped on where to put each child in the grocery cart (Answer A: If you’re just picking up a few small, unbreakable things, the toddler sits in the cart with a distracting snack or toy and the infant rides on the handles in a baby carrier. Answer B: If you’re going to be filling the cart, put the toddler in the seat of the cart and strap the infant to your chest with a BabyBjorn. Having experienced mom friends is such a blessing!). However, while at Target, I had to use the restroom but opted to hold out till I got home cause how in the world does one pee in a stall with a baby, diaper bag and curious toddler?

All in all, the win for Week One goes to me. I’m sure it’s just a matter of time until the kids pick a week to completely kick my ass. For now, I’m feeling very good about my victory, especially cause I got them both to nap at the same time, which is why I’m able to write this post. In the words of Charlie Sheen, “WINNING!”

I am glad you survived your first week! I knew you would do great! Target is an essential stop tO master:) so my advice for the bathroom? Find a toy, ignor the rules of no merchandise in the bathroom, give it to Addy while in he handicap stall. Ditch the toy on the way out. If you happen to have the Baby Bjorn instead of he carseat then it may be more of a challenge:) you are doing great!!!

Amazing Liz! So glad things are going well and hope you enjoyed those precious minutes when both kiddos napped simultaneously. Way to go!
