I Just Married Some People: Stories of Mexico, Part 1

Ahhhhhh! That is the sound of the complete relaxation and enjoyment we experienced over the last 5 days in Riviera Maya, Mexico. But this vacation wasn’t just about lying pool and beach side, although we did plenty of that.

It was about one of our best friends, Brad, who we’ve known  for most of our lives, marrying Andrea, the girl of his dreams. Joey was a groomsmen. I was the officiant. As in I married them. As in I conducted a wedding ceremony, you guys! No, I didn’t hop online to quickly get ordained – they had a legal courthouse ceremony in the states first, so I didn’t have to mess with any of that. Regardless, it was a complete honor to do this for my friend. In my mind, it was a pretty big deal. This was their wedding, that day a girl waits for and envisions, and I know when I was a bride, I would’ve been pissed if someone had messed up my vows. So, I took the duty seriously and  practiced and spent time preparing heartfelt words for Brad and his bride to match those they had already given me.

The wind was blowing strong on the beach that day, so much so that my dress almost blew over my head a few times, and I hoped that people mistook the papers shaking in my hand (me super nervous=hands shaking) as papers fluttering in the breeze. Despite my overwhelming nerves, it was such a special moment to be a part of, and I hope they were truly happy with things, because I so wanted to do a good job for them.

All in all, it was a wonderful trip filled with good friends I love, insane amounts of food and hours of time lounging. Just as I suspected, all the time I spent stressing about what to pack, wearing a bikini with a pregnant belly and leaving my daughter was all for naught. I enjoyed myself immensely.

I’m so proud of you. I knew how nervous you were, but I also knew you’d nail it. Congrats new-married couple and congrats Liz. Good job. I think your on-air experience probably helped some; you’re kicking ass there, too. Nice work.

That’s awesome! You’re now the THIRD person I know (and the second woman) who has performed a wedding vow in recent years. Though the other two did get “ordained” online.

And i’m totally ticked at Google Reader … it lies! It told me you had no updates.
