A Constructed Life

Look! I Birthed a New Kitchen!

Since I don’t have a cute, new adorable baby to show you today (yeah, I’m still super pregnant), I thought I’d share the new kitchen I gave birth to instead.

Actually, it was really Joey who brought this room into existence since my “condition” has prevented me from helping with much of it. So, let’s take a look at what my husband created.

Here’s the kitchen before.

Yuck. It was awful. Nasty, ancient peeling wallpaper, crumbling plaster ceilings, the sink was in a different room, there were only two outlets and one light, all of which functioned on electrical wiring from the early to mid 1900s. Plus, there weren’t any cabinets or counters.

Here’s the room after removing all the trim and appliances.

And here it is after Joey and several friends and family members helped gut the place.

And now…here is our new kitchen “baby,” with its Ikea cabinets (the style is Adel), shiny LG appliances and updated electrical wiring.

Before viewing the following images, please note that our counters haven’t been installed yet (we’re using plywood for now), nor have we hung the trim for the cabinets, windows or doors or finished installing all the light fixtures. But, here’s where we’re at so far!

TA DA!!!!!

That’s a dishwasher to the right of the sink and a garbage disposal under the sink. These are amazing appliances to me. I have never lived in a house with a dishwasher (except for two apartments in college) and that garbage disposal…well, I had forgotten how nice they are.

Joey sure did grow a nice looking kitchen, didn’t he? I clean it about 5 times a day, which is my way of showing it how much I love it.

This is just one section of the kitchen – we still have the kitchen’s fraternal twin, the pantry, to reveal. Geeze – I can’t even get one baby out of me and Joey’s already had two.

Hey, are you SURE you're not wandering into other peoples' homes again? 🙂

Seriously, it looks GREAT! Definitely not hard at all to see how far it's come.

That Joey. What a dude. (Even if he is a faceless presence who fixes up rooms in your and gets you pregnanat!)I'm a little jealous — of the kitchen.

But just wait until later in the month. Just wait …

    Ho. Ly. Crap.
It looks awesome. Screw the granite counters, I love the plywood.
P.S. We have the same spoon rest! We are SO soulmates.
